Today we had our first Malian field trip. This was not your usual camp trip to the movies or the bowling alley; instead we went to the agricultural center which specialized in artificial insemination for cows! While we did not really understand the explanations in Bambara; we did really enjoy the giant screeching bats. It rained again this morning and we were blown away by the beautiful colors: the red earth, the orange puddles, and the green leaves.
After fried plantains for lunch, we went to the hydro electric plant for part 2 of our adventures. The Niger is wide, impressive, and dirty. No comment on the plant itself.
We came home, showered, and ventured to the Kati market where strangers comments felt kind and not at all creepy. We are trying to figure out a project to work on and might do a drama unit about hippo folk tales at the camp. We will keep you posted about that one.
It is dinner time.
